Aromatherapy as Part of a Holistic Healing Practice
We live in particularly stressful times; the number of people reporting worry about the future, pessimism, and loss of hope seems to be rising exponentially. Aromatherapy is a wonderful adjunct that can be used alongside other healing modalities to help clients who are dealing with challenging situations in a very immediate, accessible way.
During my presentation, I will discuss how Aromatherapy can be used particularly for emotional and energetic benefits to support individuals across a variety of settings. I will provide examples of how I use aromatics alongside Reiki healings, Holistic Counseling using Tarot, and Yin Yoga to assist my clients not only during their time with me, but also during their daily lives.
My presentation will include copies of “tick sheets” as a resource to help clients share in the exploration process of what aromatics may be most helpful in addressing their particular concerns.
I’ve been practicing Aromatherapy professionally for three years, though I had been using essential oils and herbs many years prior to that. I obtained my initial Level II NAHA certification through Heart of Herbs in 2019. Following that, I did a “deep dive” of additional training through Tisserand Institute, Naturopathic CEUs, Stillpoint Aromatics, Madeleine Kerkhof/Kizco, The School for Aromatic Studies, and Salvatore Battaglia/Perfect Potions. I obtained my Level III Certification from NAHA in 2020.
I have a small healing arts center attached to my home where I provide professional services. My Aromatherapy practice is primarily focused on subtle and energetic aromatherapy for individuals who are undergoing challenging times. I incorporate Aromatherapy alongside other disciplines, as I find it is a wonderful adjunct to the Reiki, Yoga, and Tarot readings that I offer. (In fact, I am currently working on developing a guide to using Aromatherapy with Tarot and other healing arts, and I hope to create an Aromatherapy Tarot deck!)
In addition to my professional practice, I also create and sell handcrafted aromatic products in my local area, including lotions, salves, body and room sprays, scrubs, massage oils, hair care products, and bath bombs. Some of these products are for specific purposes, and others, like the bath bombs, are purely for relaxation and enjoyment in this too-stressful world. I offer workshops at the local Arts Council as well as my Healing Arts center where I share how to create safe, effective products at home and empower others to use aromatherapy in their daily lives.
I completed 650 hours of initial training through Heart of Herbs. Since that time, I have completed approximately 80 CEUs in addition to the Aromatic Medicine program I am currently completing through The School for Aromatic Studies. I have also completed my RYT-200 Yoga Teacher Training, Yin Yoga Certification, and Reiki III Practitioner/Teacher Certification. I work full time as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with Transition-aged youth and my education in the counseling field includes a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Clark University, a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Gallaudet University, and additional graduate coursework in Special Education from SUNY Potsdam. I am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor through the Rehabilitation Services Administration.
